The East Church is in a prime position to pro-actively witness to the thousands of people who shop and socialise in the city centre. A large number of people also reside within flats and hostels in the area. The Kirk Session is looking at ways to develop the work of Mission and Outreach in the city centre including the day-time opening of the church. At present, the church is opened to the public every second Friday afternoon, and by means of a visible presence outside the building, hundreds of passers-by have been invited in for a cup of coffee or tea. Thus far this work has been encouraging providing many good opportunities to listen to people in their different situations very often affording openings to share the Gospel of Hope with them.
