Letter received from Lynn Fraser
A local community project – Inverness Townscape Heritage – centred on Academy Street.
Throughout the next 12 months we will be working with the teams at Inverness Museum and Art Gallery, The Highland Archive Centre and Inverness Library to share items from their collections that help to tell the Academy Street story. We will also be gathering local people’s memories, recollections, research and creative responses to the Burgh’s heritage. To do this we will be offering workshops and activities and putting on exhibitions created with members of our local communities to explore, research, record and share the heritage of this key area of the Historic Burgh.
As the East Church is one of the oldest churches in Inverness and located on Academy Street we would like to gather some memories about the church from members of the congregation, particularly from some of the older members who have been attending for some time. To do this we would propose coming along to the church to talk to the members and record their memories (this would be done by note taking rather than audio recording).
‘The Gathering’ on Thursday 16 February is hosting a visit and would warmly encourage those in our congregation who have stories to tell or photographs to show of the East Church over the years, or of Academy Street, to come along. We meet as usual from 10.30 – 12md.
